How to Keep Warm During Winter

This winter, it is more important than ever that your home is nice and warm.  As a nation, we are spending more time at home, so it is vital that your heating is working its best. This blog will give you tips to keep those pesky heating bills down whilst keeping warm!

The first tip we have is to make sure your boiler is serviced regularly! This is so important to get checked, it keeps your warranty intact and gives you peace of mind knowing your boiler has been checked over for anything dangerous and has been maintained to run for another year.

It is not just the boiler though that needs to be checked, make sure your radiators are doing their job and there is no air in the system. You can check this by running your hand down the radiator feeling for any cold spots. If you find one, simply bleed your radiators, but always check the pressure of your system to ensure your pressure does not go below 1 or above 1.5. Also, if you have rooms that need less heat or are not used, turn down the thermostatic valve on the radiator, so you are using less heating and saving money.

Reflect the heat with radiator panels, these work by reflecting the heat into the room instead of your walls. Another point to consider is your room layout, be careful not to store bulky items in front of a radiator because they will just absorb the heat.

The thermostat location is also an important consideration for your home. Most thermostats are placed in the coldest parts of the home, for example, a hallway. This means that the thermostat will come on when needed.

Finally, to keep your boiler on the go and prevent it from freezing always have your thermostat programmed to come on if it drops below a certain temperature, this ensures that if it does get cold the boiler is being used. This will help to prevent the condensate pipe from freezing. If this is a worry for you, insulate your pipes, you can get pipe insulation cheap from most hardware shops.

We hope you have a warm winter, if you need an annual service or your boiler is unreliable call us on 01482 376275
